The Whale Interpretive Centre, located in Telegraph Cove, BC, was established in 2002 and was renowned for housing the largest public collection of marine mammal skeletons in the province. Operated by the Johnstone Strait Killer Whale Interpretive Centre Society, the WIC focused on raising public awareness about marine mammal biology and the threats they face from human activities.

Tragically, a fire on December 31, 2024, resulted in the loss of the entire collection, but efforts to rebuild the centre are already underway, bolstered by community support. The existing collection will be anchored by three skeletons that were safely off-site at the time of the fire, forming the foundation for this new chapter in the WIC's legacy.
