Volunteers from the Northern Mill Engine Society have rescued and restored over 30 old textile mill steam engines, which once powered the cotton mills and woollen mills of the North of England. The museum is only open on volunteers' working days (Wednesdays and Sundays 11.00 am - 3.00 pm), and on occasional steaming days, 10.00 am - 4.00 pm (see website for current dates). As a charity, admission is free, but donations are welcome to help with operating costs
