34 High West Street
Dorchester, England DT1 1UP
Mon, the owner, comes from Mahasarakham in Thailand and she ran her own restaurant in Bangkok before moving to England. We import specific ingredients from Thailand. Coconut milk, spices, and fruit and vegetables are imported from carefully selected suppliers. Our team also source meat, fish, and non-Thai vegetables from local suppliers. Named after the famous Kao San Road in Bangkok, Kao means rice and Kao San is uncooked rice, so Kao San Road used to be Bangkok's rice market before it became the famous night life street of today. There is no official way to translate Thai script into English, so you can spell it however you like. It could be Kao San, Khao San or even Cow San, as long as it sounds the same! Although ‘gin’ means ‘eat’, it is incomplete in Thai unless you say ‘gin kao’ – meaning ‘eat rice’.
