Newcastle Castle

Newcastle Castle, nestled in the heart of Newcastle, is where the story of the city began and the origin behind its name. Steeped in history, this imposing Norman fortress is a rugged reminder of northern England's turbulent history. This was no baron's stately home, but rather a place where armies gathered and criminals were imprisoned and executed. Newcastle Castle consists of two buildings which are both open to the public to explore - the Black Gate and the Castle Keep - as well as offering some of the most spectacular views over the city and the River Tyne Newcastle has to offer.
