Belarus Free Theatre (BFT) is a unique theatrical company distinguished as the only theatre in Europe banned by its government due to political reasons. Established in Minsk in 2005, BFT emerges as a bold challenge to the severe censorship of artistic expression prevalent in what is often referred to as Europe's last dictatorship.
The theatre produces a range of compelling works, including the visceral psychological drama "Dogs of Europe," which explores a dystopian superstate, and "Welfare," the inaugural play by Mariya Bialkovich directed by Yulia Shevchuk. Notably, BFT has also staged "448 Psychosis," the first underground production in Minsk based on Sarah Kane's final play, showcasing the resilience of artistic freedom in challenging circumstances.
