Oakengates is a market town within the still relatively new town of Telford, it boasts many eateries from around the world, as well as café’s, sandwich shops and many Public Houses with specialist ales on sale, but a new eatery has opened and woe betide you if you call it a café.The Vintage Tea Room, Oakengates, opened its doors to the public on the 30th January in the old Swinton Insurance (Bryan Knott Insurance) Office on New Street, the building has now been transformed into a beautifully decorated 28 seater Tea room, offering a verity of treats to tempt even the hardened watcher of weight. With giant cakes like the traditional Victoria Sandwich Cake, St Clements Sandwich Cake to a layered Chocolate or Coffee and Walnut Cakes all of which is supplied by another local business Field House Kitchens. Not only that, they are selling traditional fare such as toasted tea cakes, crumpets, sandwiches and the not so traditional New York Style Bagel. The teas on offer include Assam, Lap-sang Souchong, and the better known English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Yorkshire Tea and PG Tips. Sharon the business owner commented we are another eatery in Oakengates, but we feel do offer something different, we are not a café in the modern sense of the word for example we won’t serve a full English or a bacon and egg bap, but we do offer a vintage tea room experience with table service with bone china tea plates, tea pots, cups and saucers not forgetting service with a smile. Our customers are very varied coming from all walks of life, mums who have dropped the kids off at school to students on their to collage to the more elderly clientele, some of the comments we have had include, we haven’t seen cakes that big outside of Blackpool and I’m taking a picture of this because your daughter won’t believe you can get afternoon teas in Oakengates. So if you’re looking for somewhere different and a bit special or you just fancy a Cup of tea, The Vintage Tearoom in Oakengates is a great place to go.
