St Thomas Chard, England TA20 4DQ
"Windwhistle" does evoke a clifftop location, but is name of the local hills. Being on the brow of a range of hills, it does have a panoramic view on a clear day and you can see all the way to Glastonbury & the Bristol Channel. The original building which houses the traditional bar dates from the 17th Century and was once a notorious haunt of smugglers, highwaymen, and cut-throats. ocal folklore has it that if you looked like you had money on you, you would be lured or dragged down into the cellar and your throat slit. Since then the building has been extended to now include a separate restaurant area for quiet dining, a large bright & airy conservatory where the famous carvery is served . All this is set in 5 acres of beautifully maintained gardens with plenty of outdoor seating and loads of space for children (and dogs) to run off their energy after lunch. We serve modern pub classics. Specials are available and our ever popular Carvery is served through-out the day on a Sunday.
