The Ripon Workhouse & Gardens in the centre of Ripon weave together the history of the notorious Victorian workhouse system and the natural beauty of its gardens. It is one of the most complete workhouses in the UK. Visitors can learn about the people who ended up here and how life was for them over a century ago. Visitors can journey back in time seeing how paupers were treated and who governed over their destiny. They meet interesting characters and exploring stories of poverty, separation and social inequality. There are family trails, fun drop-in activities, and thought-provoking exhibitions. The Workhouse Museum and Garden is open from 10am. Museum tickets are valid for 12 months with unlimited return visits.
