The Original IOW Ferry - since 1861 Here at Red Funnel, we're proud to have been operating ferries to the Isle of Wight for over 160 years, when we were originally known as "The Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Limited". The original Isle of Wight ferry service, which operated ferries between Cowes and Southampton, was serviced by impressive looking paddle steamers. These boats also went further afield, carrying passengers to other locations such as Brighton, Cherbourg and Torquay. A lot has changed since we started. Our paddle steamers have been replaced by up to date ferries with relaxing lounges, modern facilities, and great food and drink options, and we now sail ferries exclusively to the Isle of Wight. However our passion for delivering a great customer experience has stayed the same for over 160 years!
