The Pink House

The Pink House is a small but perfectly formed bed & breakfast in west Wales. It’s located centrally within the bustling market town of Newcastle Emlyn, half way along the river Teifi and half way between Carmarthen and Cardigan. We are just three miles from the picturesque hamlet of Cenarth. Lying in the ancient kingdom of Deheubarth, Newcastle Emlyn takes its name from its most notable building – a fine example of a Norman castle built in the thirteenth century that played a key role in the history of Wales. Lying at the heart of the strategically important Teifi valley, the castle was the scene of many battles and captured twice during the Welsh revolts of 1287 and 1403 under Llewelyn the Great and Owain Glyndwr respectively. With the relative security provided by the castle, and an army of men to feed, the settlement of Newcastle Emlyn grew up around the castle itself. Today, this unmistakably Welsh town is still a centre of local commerce, though it is now focused around west Wales’ famous agricultural economy. Unlike many small rural towns across Britain, Newcastle Emlyn and the wider Teifi-Valley maintains a wide range of local services, the majority of which are family owned having steadfastly managed to resist the call of major high street chain stores. With its unhurried-charm, strong community spirit and stunning local scenery in every direction, Newcastle Emlyn is the perfect base from which to explore west Wales. The award-winning Ceredigion and north Pembrokeshire coastline is a short drive away, as are the larger settlements of Cardigan, Carmarthen and Newport, Pembrokeshire.
