Odessa Museum of Western and Oriental Art is one of the largest museums of Ukraine on artistic and historical value of the collection. The museum was founded in 1924 on the basis of collections of Novorossiysk Imperial University, the City of Odessa Museum of Fine Arts and private collections. Over time, the fund was replenished income of the State Hermitage Museum, the Pushkin Museum. Pushkin, the Kiev Museum of Western and Oriental Art. The museum building is an architectural monument of national importance. Designed and built it was in the middle of the XIX century French architect L. Otton for a nobleman and landowner A.M.Abazy. It is decided in the spirit of eclectics and to this day is one of the most recognizable buildings in Odessa. The museum's collection is renowned for its Department of Western European art. Unconditional pearls are the works of such masters as Pierre Mignard, Thomas Lawrence, Gustav Edelfelt, Juan Carreno de Miranda, Francesco Guardi, Johann Baptist Lampi senior, Jan van Goyen, Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (Guercino), Alessandro Magnasco and Frans Hals.
