Founded in 1935, the Alabama Department of Human Resources offers foster care, adoption and legislative issue handling services. Located in Phenix City, Ala., the department s child support enforcement services include paternity establishment and the collection, distribution and enforcement of support orders. Its financial assistance program includes job training and child care assistance services. The Alabama Department of Human Resources also offers the Food Stamp Program, which includes the serving of edible food items to low-income individuals and families. In addition, the department recruits social workers who provide child abuse assessment and individual protection services. The Alabama Department of Human Resources has a staff of more than 4,200 employees.
