The Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Site, managed by Long Rifle Lodge, is located one mile south of the Lodge at Mile 101 on the Glenn Highway National Scenic Byway. This 300-acre recreation area features 12 campsites, picnic tables, fire pits, and an interpretive nature trail that offers excellent views of the Matanuska Glacier and the surrounding landscape.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the year, including hiking, glacier trekking, river rafting in the summer, and skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmachining in the winter. While direct access to the glacier is not provided, the site offers some of the safest and best public viewing opportunities in the area.
