HistoryThe Arkansas Minority Health Commission was established through Act 912 of 1991, initiated by lead sponsor (then) Sen. Bill Lewellen. It was the culmination of work begun by Dr. Jocelyn Elders, who was director of the Arkansas Department of Health and State Public Health Officer at the time, and the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus.SpecialtiesThe mission of the Arkansas Minority health Commission (AMHC) is to ensure all minority Arkansans access to health care that is equal to the care provided to other citizens of the state and to seek ways to provide education, address issues and prevent diseases and conditions that are prevalent among minority populations.
