Applied Materials Engineering, founded in 1988, is an independent construction materials consulting, inspection and testing firm. It undertakes field inspections and testing services during construction to verify compliance with approved documents. Inspections are conducted for new construction and seismic upgrades of diverse projects ranging from schools and hospitals to low-income housing and commercial buildings. Its consulting services include forensic analysis, determination of material failure causes, waterproofing investigations and design reviews. It also carries out infrastructure inspections and tests for soils and asphalt as required by Caltrans and other municipal codes. The company has a laboratory to support its activities and can test for conventional structural materials such as concrete, steel, masonry and wood. Applied Materials Engineering has its head office in Oakland, Calif.
