About Dr. Gary AlegreOrthopedic spine surgeon Gary Alegre, MD, is proud to provide a diverse practice to patients in Stockton, California. He can treat simple spinal conditions to major spinal problems that would otherwise be treated at a tertiary care hospital. Dr. Alegre is a native of San Joaquin County and a first-generation physician from an agricultural family. He graduated with high honors from the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). Following his undergraduate studies, he traveled to Boston where he graduated with honors from Tufts Medical School. Dr. Alegre then returned to UC Davis to complete his orthopedic surgery residency where he developed an interest in spine surgery under the guidance of mentors, Drs. Daniel Benson and Munish Gupta. In order to acquire expertise in spinal surgery, he completed a spine surgery fellowship at the Leatherman Spine Institute in Louisville, Kentucky.Dr. Alegres interest in minimally invasive spinal surgery has allowed the latest techniques to be brought to the central valley. He continues to help develop and refine spinal surgery techniques and help train doctors from around the world. He enjoys working on new spinal implants and procedures to advance the rapidly developing practice of spine surgery, including cervical disc replacements, lumbar spinal fusions, and spinal deformity surgery.Dr. Alegre has a wife, and three boys and the family has lived in Stockton since 2003.
