Since its inception, Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra's goal has been to bring to life master works of chamber literature not often performed by other groups. Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra specializes in compositions for larger sized, often conducted, chamber orchestras. Many of the pieces Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra performs are not presented by chamber music groups because the number of players required is too large, but are also not presented by symphonic organizations because the number of players required is too small.Since its first concert in 1992, Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra has enjoyed gratifying critical response. One critic recently wrote of EMCO's performance of Composer-in-Residence Stephen Tosh's Covenant of Light in Carmel's Sunset Center, "We are very lucky on the Central Coast to be able to enjoy the collaborative excellence and professional talent of Ensemble Monterey, Cantiamo and Stephen Tosh."
