In 1937, a small group of employers in need of human resources and labor relations assistance pooled their financial resources to form California Association of Employers. In 1938 a small group of employers formed the Valley Employers Association in Fresno for the same purpose. In 2007, CAE and VEA joined forces and today are known as California Employers Association ( CEA ) with a for profit subsidiary known as CAE Services Inc All employees are placed within the for profit subsidiary of the association, known as CAE Services, Inc In forming CEA, it was the intent of these businesspersons to create an organization that small- to mid-sized private and public sector businesses could turn to receive professional human resource management and labor relations assistance. CEA became, in effect, the human resources department for its members. CEA and CAE Services, Inc are both governed by a volunteer board of directors comprised of representatives from member businesses. The boards provide policy direction in the carrying out and expansion of human resource and labor relations services to members. A hallmark of CEA is the manner in which it provides human resource and labor relations benefits to members. While many nonprofit membership organizations primarily provide information to their members, CEA goes an important step further.
