About Motor carrier members and associate members of Nevada Motor Transport Association ( NMTA ) have done a lot to support their industry in the last 70 years. Membership in NMTA has meant action in government and business, and protection of motor transportation interests. NMTA was created as a defensive measure. Truck and bus operators doing business in Nevada were forced to band together for mutual protection in the face of threatening legislation, which would have put them out of business or seriously interfered with their operations. From its inception in 1932, NMTA has expanded its activities, and is recognized as the voice of the motor carrier industry in Nevada. NMTA represents truck and bus operators, seeking interpretation of existing laws and regulations affecting the industry, opposing restrictive legislation, and sponsoring laws designed to promote the healthy development of safe, efficient highway transportation. NMTA is a non-profit association devoted to promoting the interests of the motor carrier industry. It is the only official organization representing the motor carrier industry in Nevada, and is nationally recognized as such. NMTA is governed in a democratic fashion through elected officers and directors, who represent the great diversity of motor carrier operations in our region. Overall, NMTA has saved the motor carrier industry in excess of $200 million in state highway user fees and taxes through legislative action. NMTA has secured legislation authorizing longer combination vehicle permits, which represent a large financial savings to members and to the motor carrier industry. Through our national affiliation with the American Trucking Associations ( ATA ) in Washington, D.C., you are also represented in the halls of Congress. We also provide free notary service to members. NMTA has a group self-insured workers' compensation program for eligible members, which has saved its participants $45 million since 1996.
