Fremont Older Open Space

Sierra Azul Preserve, managed by Midpen, spans over 19,000 acres of pristine wilderness in the Santa Cruz Mountains, featuring diverse landscapes that include serpentine grasslands, rocky chaparral, and dense oak woodlands. The preserve is home to a variety of wildlife, including mountain lions, deer, and bobcats, while also offering visitors 26 miles of multiuse trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

Notable for its historical significance, the area has been inhabited for thousands of years, with Mount Umunhum playing a key role in Amah Mutsun creation stories.
