Established in 1974 from a converted ice cream truck, King Taco first gained popularity when Don Raúl and Doña Lupe set up their taco truck next to an East LA bar. Over the years, King Taco has grown to 22 locations, offering a diverse range of authentic Mexican dishes that have garnered acclaim from food critics.
Ricardo Barragan's painting captures the essence of King Taco's early days, focusing on the original marquee sign and the third street location which originally operated as order-to-go in the 1980s. Customers would place their orders at the windows and enjoy their meals on the hood of their cars, embodying a nostalgic experience.
