The Fresno Irrigation District was formed in 1920 as the successor to the Fresno Canal and Land Company. The district comprises some 245,000 acres, lies entirely within Fresno County, Calif. The district also operates approximately 800 miles of canals and pipelines. Total irrigated area exceeds 150,000 acres. In a normal year, the district diverts approximately 500,000 acre-feet of water and delivers most of that to agricultural users. The district has also combined forces with the city of Fresno, the city of Clovis, the county of Fresno and the Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District in a cooperative effort to develop and implement a surface and groundwater management program. The main thrust of the program involves using flood control basins for recharge during the summer when the basins are not needed to control urban storm runoff. The Fresno Irrigation District is located in Fresno.

Madera County Board of Supervisors, a part of Madera County, operates as a legislative and executive governing body. Located in Madera, Calif., the board enacts ordinances and rules, determines County policies, supervises the activities of County departments, prepares annual budgets and fixes salaries. It is responsible for handling issues related to Madera County Flood Control, Water Conservation Agency, the maintenance district and service areas responsible for roads, lighting, sewer, water, fire and recreation. The board also addresses issues relating to low interest disaster loans, master contracts and various applications.
