200 Santa Monica Pier Ste A
Santa Monica, CA 90401

Located at the western end of historic Route 66, the Santa Monica Pier not only attracts visitors from all over the world due to its landmark status, but also draws throngs of locals in the summer to its free weekly Twilight Concert Series. Young and old, families and couples, culture junkies and nostalgia seekers -– the Santa Monica Pier has a little something for everyone.

Three must-see attractions at the Santa Monica Pier
Learn to fly at the Trapeze School, test your Skeeball skills at the Playland Arcade or take an unforgettable ride on the iconic Ferris wheel, roller coaster or historic carousel at Pacific Park, the mini-amusement park located on the Pier. For those less interested in games or thrills, a simple stroll down the Pier affords unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean and the coastline. Of course, no visit to the Santa Monica Pier is complete without snapping a picture or two in front of the famous sign at the entrance.

Where to stay near the Santa Monica Pier
Luxury hotels and more modest motels are abundant up and down the Santa Monica coast, but be prepared to pay a premium for such a choice location. Better deals are found inland, and Santa Monica is one of the only places in the Los Angeles area where walking or taking the bus is easy.

Best and worst time to go to the Santa Monica Pier
If you head to the Santa Monica Pier on a summer weekend, expect large crowds, full parking lots and long lines. But it's also the best time to catch that beachy vibe that has made the place famous. Winter weekdays are far less busy, but bundle up -- the temperature is generally 10 to 15 degrees cooler at the beach. If you can, ride the Ferris wheel at sunset for romantic views of the ocean and the twinkling lights of the surrounding coastline.

Discounts at the Santa Monica Pier
Discount coupons for unlimited ride wristbands at Pacific Park are available on their website. Find deals on classes at the Trapeze School on websites such as Groupon and LivingSocial. If you're a member of AAA, don't forget to ask about discounts -– many Santa Monica attractions and hotels offer deals for members.

Food at the Santa Monica Pier
There are food options for every palate and price point on the Santa Monica Pier. You'll find classic amusement park treats like pizza, funnel cakes and cotton candy at the Pacific Park food court. There are several full-service restaurants on the Pier, and "Forrest Gump" fans won't want to miss a chance to dine at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. For the most memorable meal, head all the way to Mariasol at the west end of the Pier to feast on Mexican fare while gazing into the blue waters of the Pacific.

Parking at the Santa Monica Pier
The Pier is located in the heart of Santa Monica, and parking and traffic can be a hassle at almost any hour. There is a parking lot on the Santa Monica Pier deck as well as one directly north of the Pier. Additional parking is available at beach lots, downtown Santa Monica lots and at nearby hotels. Expect to spend anywhere between a couple dollars and $20 or more, depending on the location.

Transportation alternatives at the Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus operates a number of lines that link the Pier to popular destinations within the city as well as greater Los Angeles. In addition, Santa Monica anticipates having a bike share program in place by the end of 2015, which will allow visitors to easily rent and drop-off bicycles at locations throughout the city. Also in the works is the Expo Light Rail, which will connect downtown Los Angeles with downtown Santa Monica beginning as early as 2016.
