Access to psychiatric care is full of barriers and stigma, therefore when I meet a patient and their family, I treat them with the utmost respect knowing the great lengths that they have gone through to see me. Even though my training has taught me the most complex issues of brain biology and pharmacology, I still highly value the interpersonal experience and narrative. Parents and patients often still know best how to help themselves.
