History

Back in 2003 we realized there was something missing in San Francisco. We would frequent a variety of tanning salons to prepare for vacations/events (our friends would do the same and have similar reactions) and our expectations were never met. This launched us into researching why no one had ever tried opening a high-end version of the tanning business that could mimic luxurious offerings and a similar aesthetic that an upscale, modern hotel/spa would offer. Through learning about the local market (and what other cities offered), we discovered that not only was it an expensive operation to set up/build out, but it was challenging to operate. This was a market we wanted to tap into by putting the following four priorities into the forefront of our business plan - Ambiance, Equipment, Customer Service and Results. Tan Bella opened its first location in November of 2004 and quickly became the industry leader within San Francisco and on the West Coast.
