Fremont's Fort in Mariposa, CA is a historical landmark that commemorates General John C. Fremont, a renowned military man, explorer, topographer, senator, businessman, and miner. Located just outside Bear Valley, Fremont settled in Mariposa County and operated various mines, including the Josephine, Pine Tree Princeton mines, and others. In 1858, upon returning from his travels, Fremont discovered that many of his mines had been taken over, leading to a feud with several groups, including the Hornitas League.
