Aviva Abosch, M.D., Ph.D., is a fellowship-trained, board-certified neurosurgeon and serves as deputy director of Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute as well as the Institute’s director of epilepsy surgery and co-director of functional neurosurgery. A leading surgeon-scientist in the field of neurosurgery, she performs advanced surgical procedures to treat such conditions as epilepsy, movement disorders, brain tumors and psychiatric conditions. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Abosch served as department chair and the Nancy A. Keegan and Donald R. Voelte, Jr. chair of Neurosurgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center as well as co-director of Nebraska Medicine neurosciences service line. She continues to be committed to broadening educational opportunities for students, trainees and practitioners at all levels. Dr. Abosch’s research focuses on therapeutic modulation of brain pathways for the treatment of epilepsy and movement and neuropsychiatric disorders. She has been involved in numerous clinical trials for surgical treatments related to epilepsy, movement disorders and neuropsychiatric conditions. Her research has received funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and intramural and industry sources. She is widely published and speaks nationally and internationally on her areas of clinical and research expertise. Dedicated to contributing to the scientific community, Dr. Abosch has held multiple editorial roles in the field of neurosurgery and currently serves as associate editor of Neurosurgery and reviewer for several medical publications. She holds leadership roles on many national and international committees and organizations, including secretary of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and is past president of both the American Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and of Women in Neurosurgery. Dr. Abosch earned her medical degree and a Ph.D. in neurobiology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed a general surgery internship and a neurosurgery residency at the University of California in San Francisco. Her clinical training also includes a fellowship in epilepsy surgery at Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and an additional fellowship in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery at Toronto Western Hospital, University of Toronto. Dr. Abosch is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care. Dr. De Los Rios La Rosa is a fellow of the American Heart Association and has served in academic appointments at the University of Cincinnati and Florida International University. Guilherme Dabus, M.D., is the co-director of interventional neuroradiology at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Dabus specializes in interventional neuroradiology and neuroendovascular surgery. He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Prior to joining Miami Neuroscience Institute in 2021, Dr. Dabus served as an attending interventional neuroradiologist at Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute and interim Chief of Neuroscience at Baptist Health Baptist Hospital from 2019 to 2020. Active in training the next generation of physicians, Dr. Dabus is the director of the Interventional Neuroradiology Fellowship Program at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute and Miami Neuroscience Institute. He is also a clinical professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine of Florida International University. Dr. Dabus has served as the local principal investigator for several clinical trials and is the national co-PI for the SUMMIT MAX trial. His research has been published more than 120 times in peer-reviewed publications, including Stroke, the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, Neuroradiology, AJNR, Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, Handbook of Clinical Neurology and Frontiers in Neurology. He has also authored several chapters for medical textbooks. Dr. Dabus is a leader in his field and serves on the board of directors of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery, where he currently holds the position of treasurer. He was the chair of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery Annual Meeting held in 2018 in San Francisco. Dr. Dabus serves as a reviewer for numerous publications, including the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, Journal of Endovascular Therapy, Stroke, American Journal of Neuroradiology and Interventional Neuroradiology. He is also a sought-after speaker and regularly presents at national and international events. Dr. Dabus’ approach to patient care is to treat all his patients as they were his own family members.
