Michael McDermott, M.D., is a neurosurgeon, the Chief Medical Executive and Irma & Kalman Bass Endowed Chair in Clinical Neuroscience at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, as well as Chair of the Department of Neurosciences at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He is a world-renowned leader in neurosciences and has clinical expertise in the field of meningioma surgery and Gamma Knife radiosurgery. Dr. McDermott is widely known for advancing neurosurgical techniques and is an expert in the treatment of a wide variety of neurological disorders. He is one of the world’s leading experts in meningioma—the most common primary brain tumor in adults—and was named the most-published author of papers on meningioma research. Dr. McDermott joined Baptist Health from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center, where he served as co-director of the Gamma Knife radiosurgery and skull base surgery programs, vice chairman of clinical programs from 2001-2012 and held the Wolfe Family Endowed Professor in Meningioma Research. Throughout his career, Dr. McDermott’s research has generated more than 500 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to his clinical and research leadership, he is an accomplished educator and currently leads the neuroscience academic program at Florida International University. As residency program director at UCSF Medical Center for seven years, he trained young surgeons from around the world. Dr. McDermott has been recognized with several professional awards and numerous visiting professor invitations. When he is not treating patients, Dr. McDermott enjoys exploring Florida with his wife, Coralee, and their English bulldogs, Rocco and Bianca. He also has his own wine label and is a vintage Formula Ford race car enthusiast.

Italo Linfante, M.D, is the co-director of interventional neuroradiology at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Linfante specializes in endovascular procedures and interventional neuroradiology. He is fluent in English and Italian. Dr. Linfante joined Miami Neuroscience Institute from Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, where he served as medical director of interventional neuroradiology. He is currently a clinical professor of radiology and neuroscience at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University. He has published numerous book chapters and books on stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Specialties in Neurology and Vascular Neurology and Diplomate in NeuroEndovascular Surgery from the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). Dr. Linfante holds several leadership positions in neuroendovascular surgery. He is a founding member and was president of the Society for Interventional Neurology (SVIN). He also served on the Executive Committee of the Society for Neuro Interventional Surgery (SNIS). He has been the chairman of several sessions and scientific symposiums of the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association (ASA). In addition, he served as chairman and faculty of the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology, and the International Symposium of Endovascular Therapy (ISET). He has received numerous awards, including the Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) and Stroke Council, Cum Laude Award of the American Society of Neuroradiology, Cor Vitae Award from the American Heart Association and others. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Linfante enjoys running, tennis, swimming, music, playing the guitar and traveling.
