Greenwood, FL 32443

The Town of Greenwood, Florida, established in 1824 and incorporated in 1927, is a historic town surrounded by large plantations and home to several pre-Civil War houses, including the Hayes House, the Erwin House, Great Oaks, and the Hayes-Long Mansion. With a rich history, Greenwood once boasted doctors, cotton gins, a peanut mill, a railroad, general stores, a drug store, and a livery stable, as well as a vibrant theatrical group in the 1880s. Today, Greenwood is known for its well-preserved antebellum architecture, including seven homes and one store eligible for the National Registry.

Among the notable historic buildings in Greenwood are the Erwin House, built in the 1830s and open to overnight travelers in the 1880s, and the Great Oaks, an impressive example of antebellum architecture that has served as a school twice. Other notable structures include the Dickenson House, the Longwood House, the Willis House (now Greenwood Plantation Gallery), and the Hayes-Long Mansion, which was faced with bricks by its owner. Pender's Store, still in operation, has been serving the community since 1869, while the Greenwood Town Hall, located across from the store, has been a central hub for the town since the 1960s.

Greenwood is a small town off the beaten path in the Florida panhandle. It is a nice enough town with that whole small town vibe going on.
