The Idaho Air National Guard was established in 1946. The state s first unit was the 190th Fighter Squadron, which was called to active duty in 1950, the only full-scale mobilization in the Idaho Air Guard s history, to replace Air Force units in Korea. The Idaho Air National Guard has nearly 20 units, including an airlift squadron and a fighter squadron. The Air National Guard has been a part of United States history since the Revolutionary War. Today s Air National Guard is a separate reserve component of the U.S. Air Force. There are more than 140 Air Guard units throughout the U.S. and its territories.
