One of the many services Nombach provides to the Chicago area is brickwork. Brickwork is typically performed by professional brick layers. These brick layers use bricks and mortars to build structures such as walls, homes, and buildings. Brickwork is also performed to close up openings in windows, corners, and doors. Bricks are a very popular material for Chicago area homes and businesses. Bricks are probably one of the strongest structural materials used in construction, and the long lasting durability of bricks has made them very popular over many centuries in all areas. Brick dimensions are typically laid out as two rows of bricks along side one another. Mortar is placed between the bricks to hold them in place. Wall thickness and construction are very important in the domain of brickwork. Solid brickwork consists of bricks laid in rows called courses. Cavity walls consist of two leaves of brickwork tied to each other via metal. The cavity or space can be filled with insullation material. There are many names to the positions of bricks. Some are called stretchers, while others are called headers, rowlocks, and shiners. These are only a few of the kind of brick positions, and they are worth mentioning from a reference standpoint and used variously depending upon the job at hand, but we will not get into the heavy details of all the different brick positions here. The important thing to know is that brickwork is one form of building structures and a very reliable form used by many people in modern and ancient times. Brick types include clay bricks ( pressed and wire cut bricks fall into this category ). Good brickwork performed by an experienced professional will give you long lasting results. Bricks are great insulators against heat and cold, and their sturdiness can withstand heavy wind storms, such as hurricanes up to an extent ( if a category 4 or 5 hurricane were to strike a coastal area, brick homes and buildings would suffer damage regardless of how well they are built because of the extreme intensity of the storm itself ). Luckily most hurricanes make landfall as weaker storms, but this is not always the case. A few examples include Hurricane Camille in 1969, Hurricane Katrina ( 2005 ), the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane ( this storm that hit the Florida Keys had wind gusts of over 200mph! and is considered one of the strongest U.S. land falling storm in terms of wind and low barometric pressure ), the 1938 Long Island Express Hurricane, Hurricane Andrew ( 1992 ), and the terrible Galveston disaster of 1900. These famous storms did tremendous damage to brick homes and businesses, but Gulf coast and Eastern seaboard residents are now looking at other ways to construct better built hurricane proof homes. The problem is it will take time to figure out a real good solution, and until that comes, damage from hurricanes will wreak havoc on structural domains. Luckily Chicagoland residents don't have to worry about hurricanes, but a severe thunderstorm can produce damaging winds by itself and sometimes even a tornado. It is better to have a brick home or business to withstand extensive storm damage in comparison to weaker construction materials sometimes used to build things.
