The Hammond Housing Authority ( HHA ) provides homes for low-income families and individuals. Those who meet income requirements are selected in accordance with the Hammond Housing Authority Occupancy Policy. There is no discrimination against people of any race, sex, color, or religion, and rent is partially subsidized by the federal government.The HHA office and staff operates under the guidance of the Executive Director. Our properties are handicapped accessible, have hearing-impaired smoke detectors as well as many other accomodations. The office is open for business 8: 00 a.m. to 4: 00 p.m., Monday through Friday.The HHA offers two types of housing - Public Housing and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers ( HCV ). We operate 458 public housing units in City of Hammond. Through the Section 8 HCV Program, residents receive rental assistance to help rent apartments owned by private landlords. ( Click on the links above to learn more about housing opportunities. )The HHA has a Family Self-Sufficiency Program in place, which focuses on the unemployed and underemployed members of the community who participate in our Section 8 HCV Program. Rental assistance programs are coupled with career and personal counseling, job training and placement, child care, transportation, adult basic education, and literacy training. HHA has 101 family self-sufficiency slots.
