While the Sleep Center places an emphasis on sleep apnea-a potentially serious condition that causes episodes of non-breathing during the sleep cycle-physicians can diagnose many different sleep disorders. The most common symptom of sleep apnea is daytime fatigue. Early stages of sleep apnea can also cause an increase in blood pressure or even leg swelling. Obesity is a major risk factor for sleep apnea. In many cases, weight loss alone can be an effective treatment. In more serious causes, surgery may be needed to improve breathing. If you're experiencing sleep concerns, talk with your doctor. Appointments will be made by physician referral, so contact your doctor's office first if you have sleep concerns.
