Founded under the auspices of LULAC Council 5001, the station aims to serve the Hispanic community by offering educational and entertainment programs, alongside sponsoring scholarships for local Hispanic college students.

With the support of dedicated volunteers and local sponsors, Radio Sabor Latino has awarded over $200,000 in scholarships and has significantly contributed to the cultural richness of the Michiana area through various community events and initiatives. The station, initially broadcasting at 98.1 MHz, improved its reach by changing frequencies to 93.5 MHz a decade after its inception, ensuring continuous service for its listeners.
