Security State Bank was founded in May of 1897 and has remained one of Wellington's oldest and most trusted financial institutions. We have been committed to offering the residents of Sumner County and southern Kansas the very best in customer service and financial security. Still located at our original site, at the intersection of Harvey and Washington in downtown Wellington, Security State Bank has remained a cornerstone of Wellington's main street. While our location hasn't changed in over 100 years, the aesthetics of the bank have been remodeled. The first substantial change to the bank's appearance was in 1952, when the interior was remodeled. The original teller cages were removed and the floors carpeted. The adjoining building that had originally housed Bee Hive Grocery was purchased and extended the bank's interior by 25 feet. In 1977, Security State Bank purchased Palmer Drug Store to expand once again. The bank building and motor bank building were remodeled in 1983 to finish the expansion into the Palmer Drug Store building. Our biggest renovation was completed in 1997, with the renovation of the exterior walls and drive-thru motor bank to their current appearance. In addition, we now provide four drive thru lanes for your convenience. In November of 2007 we opened our newest location inside of the Wal-Mart SuperCenter in Wellington.
