Established in 1990, Kentucky Cancer Registry is an organization that operates as a mandatory cancer reporting system. It receives reports of cancer cases from the acute care hospitals and outpatient facilities in Kentucky. The organization has developed a cancer patient data management system to which all the cancer cases are reported. Kentucky Cancer Registry also receives cancer reports from freestanding treatment centers, nonhospital pathology laboratories and physician offices. It is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the National Program of Cancer Registries. The organization submits data to the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries for evaluation of completeness, accuracy and timeliness. Kentucky Cancer Registry receives more than 21,000 primary cases of cancer annually. Its data is used to prepare various research projects and proposals.
