The London Laurel County Animal Shelter is dedicated to promoting the welfare of animals in Kentucky through various initiatives, including spaying and neutering programs. Their mission emphasizes the importance of responsible pet ownership and the health benefits associated with these practices, aiming to reduce the population of homeless animals in the region.

In addition to their core mission, the shelter actively engages the community by offering resources such as an interactive map to locate nearby shelters, opportunities for volunteering, and avenues for donations. Their efforts are supported by the Kentucky Spay Neuter license plate sales, which have generated significant funding for local spay-neuter campaigns, showcasing the power of collective action in animal welfare.

Charlotte Bateman (now deceased) was the driving force behind the creation of Danville-Boyle County Humane Society. A plaque on the outside of the building and a portrait in the front hall honor her. The Mission of Danville-Boyle County Humane Society is to promote the humane treatment of companion animals through sheltering, adoptions, community education, and spay/neuter programs. The non-profit group, administered by a 12-person board, owns the Humane Society building and grounds and pays for all maintenance and improvements to the facilities. The building was built in 1978 and expanded in 2005. Our organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors working in cooperation with the Boyle Fiscal Court to operate the animal shelter. Our shelter takes in approximately 3, 000 animals per year and our main source of funds is donations from individuals. Danville-Boyle County Humane Society opened the Happy Paws Spay/Neuter Clinic in October 2007. The one-day per week clinic makes affordable surgery prices available to individuals receiving public assistance or those with low incomes or social security recipients. The clinic is staffed by a paid veterinarian as well as a technician, and over 1, 000 surgeries are performed each year. Approximately 30 volunteers are responsible for the clinic operation. Happy Paws is self-sustaining, receiving support from private donations and granting agencies. As a service to the community, the DBCHS operates a pet cemetery, Paws Memorial Park, located on the shelter grounds. It is a peaceful spot for owners to bury their faithful companions. 2009 Copyright Danville-Boyle County Humane Society Site design & development by Rumbolt Design
