Elaine K. Kao, MD, specializes in obstetrics and gynecology at Ochsner Health. Dr. Kao serves as the medical director for the Women’s Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery Program at Ochsner. Dr. Kao has served the Greater New Orleans area and the Mississippi Gulf Coast region for over a decade. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and she is a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Her practice focuses primarily on advanced office-based procedures, imaging and minimally invasive surgery. This includes hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, robotic and vaginal surgery, to treat a range of complex gynecologic conditions such as fibroids, abnormal bleeding, endometriosis and ovarian cysts. She has over 20 years of experience in minimally invasive surgery with the da Vinci Robotic system, performing both robotic hysterectomies and robotic myomectomies for patients wishing to preserve their uterus. These minimally invasive approaches allow for outpatient surgery and shorter recovery times, even for complex conditions. She also has expertise in advanced hysteroscopic and laparoscopic procedures, as well as radiofrequency ablation for fibroid treatment.
