Maria Schmidt, C.R.N.P., D.N.P., R.N., is a movement disorders nurse practitioner specializing in symptom management for people with atypical Parkinsonian disorders such as progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal syndrome (CBS), multiple system atrophy (MSA) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), as well as Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders affecting movement and cognitive function. Schmidt offers personalized care that combines holistic and nonmedication treatments, such as music-based rehabilitation, with medication treatments and other therapies. She helps patients and coordinates care as part of the Atypical Parkinsonism Center (also designated a CurePSP Center of Care) at Johns Hopkins Bayview and the Johns Hopkins Center for Music and Medicine. Schmidt received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Stevenson University in Maryland, and she completed her doctorate in nursing practice at the University of Maryland. She has more than13 years of clinical experience in neurology, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, orthopaedics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery and palliative care. She also treats chronic pain resulting from nerve damage with scrambler therapy, a noninvasive way to “reset” the central nervous system to relieve pain. This therapy is used to treat multiple nerve pain conditions including chronic intractable back and neck pain, postlaminectomy syndrome, pain after joint replacement, peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia (pain after shingles), lumbar radiculopathy, cervical radiculopathy and central neuropathic pain.   Schmidt devotes her practice to patient-centered and family-centered care that fosters physical and mental health, well-being and quality of life. She is a member of the CurePSP Patient and Caregiver Advocacy Committee and the Access to Care Committee. This allows her to act as a patient advocate and playing a role in community outreach, education, improvement of access to care and health equity, as well as providing resources and support for patients with MSA, CBS and PSP.

Daniel J. Lewis, M.D. is a dual fellowship-trained Mohs and reconstructive surgeon and Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. During his Mohs fellowship at Penn, Dr. Lewis worked at the largest academic Mohs surgery center in the country alongside leaders in the field and pioneers in the use of Mohs surgery with immunohistochemistry, complex reconstruction, high-risk tumors, and tumors on specialty sites. Dr. Lewis has authored over 90 peer-reviewed manuscripts in high-impact journals such as Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, and Journal of Investigative Dermatology. He has also served on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Dermatology and has authored multiple textbook chapters as well as two editions of the book Practical Ways to Improve Patient Adherence, named the winner of the 2022 "Best Overall" Dermie Award by Dermasphere. Dr. Lewis is an aspiring leader in cutaneous oncology and was named Post-Doctoral Trainee of the Year in 2022 by ADEN, winner of the 2022 ASDS Young Investigators Writing Competition, and a Rising Scholar by the Dermatology Foundation in 2023. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He is passionate about Mohs micrographic surgery and has clinical interests in advanced facial reconstruction, Mohs surgery with immunohistochemistry, facial anatomy, Merkel cell carcinoma, melanoma, and patient adherence.
