This organization offers tours of the oldest remaining shaft-rock house in the Keweenaw, the hoist house with its original hoist, and the captain's office full of old documents and pictures. The Champion #4 was mined for copper from 1902 until 1967 when it was turned over to the Township Water Department to service providing water to the surrounding region until the mid 1990s. It was then turned over to this organization to preserve and share the history of the area and this special site with visitors. After mining ended, the company simply walked away leaving most everything behind. The water department did the same thing when they left. Come visit the site, frozen in time and left how it was in the final days of operation.
