81 Peterboro St
Detroit, MI 48201

The Scott Mansion, also known as The Peterboro Castle, is a historic residence in Detroit, built in 1887 by prominent figure James Scott, who was instrumental in funding the Scott Fountain on Belle Isle. Designed by architect Mortimer Smith in the Richardson Romanesque style, the mansion reflects the opulence of its era, although it currently stands in a dilapidated state awaiting restoration.

After being unoccupied since 1976, the mansion was acquired by a developer with plans for a $25 million restoration, which aims to preserve its historic features while creating residential and retail spaces. Despite its storied past and architectural significance, the property has faced controversies surrounding its original owner and the conditions of his bequest to the city.
