Great Lakes Health Plan provides preventive and episodic medical care through a network of physicians and hospitals. It began serving Medicaid beneficiaries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Jackson and Washtenaw counties under contract to the Michigan Department of Community Health in 1996. The company is one of largest Medicaid health plans in Michigan, providing service to nearly 100,000 members in nearly 20 counties in Michigan s lower peninsulas. AmeriChoice, a provider of public sector health care programs, acquired GLHP in 2004. GLHP is one of several AmeriChoice health plans that serves more than 1.3 million Medicaid, Child Health Insurance Program and Medicare beneficiaries nationwide.
