HistoryBurnside began his study of karate in 1977 while a student at the University of Southern Mississippi. He has been to Okinawa, Japan several times to study with some of the most respected karate teachers of our day. With expertise in Seibukan, Shotokan, Goju-ryu, Kyokushinkai, and Kobudo, Burnside has experienced many styles of martial arts. BK has turned out many state, regional, national, and world champions. BK was opened in 1984 in downtown Hattiesburg on Front Street.SpecialtiesThere are many styles of martial arts in every country. Seibukan Shorin-ryu, the style taught at Burnside Karate (BK), has a long history of excellence, and a deep knowledge base. The Burnside Karate dojo is dedicated to teaching and preserving this authentic Okinawan karate. Seibukan has been handed down for generations and has its roots in true mortal combat.
