Central Electric Power Cooperative is an independent, locally-owned electric generation and transmission cooperative that delivers power to eight distribution cooperatives. Its eight distribution cooperatives serve a 22,000-square-mile area of central Missouri. Central Electric purchases its power from Associated Electric Cooperative, the nation s sixth-lowest cost bulk power supplier. It also operates its own 72-megawatt, coal-fired power plant. Central Electric meets a demand of nearly 700 megawatts and reports sales of more than 2.9 billion kilowatt hours each year. It is the primary electric supplier to more than 160,000 residential, commercial and industrial consumers. Central Electric maintains its headquarters in Jefferson City, Mo.
