I chose medicine because I love working with people and I love science. The way God made our bodies is amazing. I chose family medicine because I love having a broad skill set that prepares you for all kinds of issues. That's a service that benefits the entire community. Medicine opens doors into communities that would be otherwise hard to reach. We're all made in the image of God-we're more than our physical bodies. I try to address physical and spiritual and mental health. I take my time during office visits to learn who they are and make the personal connections that let me provide quality, whole-person care. I subspecialized in obstetrics because I'm passionate about women's health, delivering babies and seeing new lives being born. Combining family medicine with obstetrics gives women one physician for general and specific needs. I know about their health pre- and post-pregnancy, and that helps me better care for them.

My mom was a nurse, and her example inspired me. I watched her build relationships with patients. That's an essential part of what I do. In family practice, we build long-term relationships, and we do that by listening. That's how you learn where the problems are and how you can help. Listening reflects the Mercy values of dignity and hospitality.
