As a kid, I liked science. I wanted to know how everything worked. I volunteered at a hospital when I was in high school. I liked that medicine combines science and service, and that it forces you to be a lifelong learner. Many patients are frustrated because nothing's worked so far. Some have had negative experiences with the system. It's rewarding when they begin meeting their goals, like keeping up with their child on walks. Sometimes they don't know how bad they really felt until they lose weight and start feeling better. It's an exciting time in obesity medicine.
