History
It was over 60 years ago the Spanos family took on a venture that would change the hospitality industry in Tilton, New Hampshire, forever. In 1952, the Spanos opened the first of their Lake Winnipesaukee resorts, The Shangri-La Resort. This famous year round resort was owned and operated by the Spanos family and boasted about overnight visits by celebrities such as the Kennedy's, Groucho Marx, the Beach Boys, and John Lennon. In the70's, the family business expanded and acquired Lake Shore Park, The Stage Inn, and Gilford Playhouse. It was not until the 1983 that Shalimar Resort was acquired and became the year-round family resort it is today. Now in its third generation, the Spanos family is still welcoming guests to their Tilton, New Hampshire hotel.
