The Puddle Dock Restaurant

We strive for complete synergy between our ambience, menu, and music. Modern Colonial is our concept, and hospitality is our specialty. Although we first opened during the Coronavirus Pandemic in 2021, The Puddle Dock Restaurant is steeped in history. Located on the grounds of Strawbery Banke Museum, the Puddle Dock Restaurant is an homage to this area of Portsmouth which was known as the puddle dock. We are in the Dunaway building of Strawbery Banke; although it looks authentically Colonial, this building was constructed to portray a typical New England country store for the 1964 World’s Fair in New York. Wood for the building came from beams in an old barn in Dover. The building was moved to Strawbery Banke in 1967 and was used first as The Dunaway Store. Many locals will remember the penny candy counter, working post office, and pickle barrel from The Dunaway Store. If you ask a local about their memories of this building, you will undoubtedly see a smile and hear a story.
