Samuel Gibson our founder created a real-estate and insurance agency business in 1921 in Dover, New Jersey. Sam was very active and involved in the community. Years past and in 1948 the family business was sold to Oscar W. Benson who continued to expand the Agency. In 1950 the business was growing and Stephen Thomson joined the Agency working with Oscar Benson, as the surrounding communities expanded in and around Dover. With continued growth in 1957 a new location was needed for the business and they moved from their Blackwell Street location to its current location at 15 North Morris Street. Stephen Thomson in 1961 partnered with Oscar Benson and they incorporated under the name Benson Thomson Agency, Inc In 1986 Jay Thomson joined his father in the family insurance business and is now running the day to day operations of the Agency. We have been providing insurance to families and businesses in Northern New Jersey's, Morris County and surrounding Counties for over 85 years! Since then, we have gained the trust of our clients throughout the years and for some area families it's been generations. The Agency has been honored over the years for its involvement as Stephen Thomson was honored by Rotary International of Dover for his outstanding community service in 1988, the Dover Chamber of Commerce as Business man of the year in October of 1993, and later became a George F. Hixson Fellow with Kiwanis International in October of 1998. Honors aside, Stephen Thomson served as the Treasurer of Mine Hill from 1948 to 1976 and still found some time to volunteer as a Little League Coach and a recreation department girl's softball coach. Jay Thomson enjoys spending some of his time helping to safeguard the natural resources and enhance the quality of life in Morris County by serving on the Morris County Open Space and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund committees. The Board of chosen Freeholders, Morris County selected Jay in November of 2003 to be honored for his years of dedicated service to Morris County for his role as chairman of the above committees. Jay has contributed to several other areas of the community by supporting Kiwanis International, now a life member ; is past President Dover Kiwanis Club and an Advisor to Dover High School's Key Club. He supports the local Dover Chamber of Commerce as a trustee, been given the Award Merit by the Boy Scouts of America Black River District for his role on the Patriots Path Council and has worked with sco
