Rooshil Patel, MD - Sightmd New Jersey Toms River
Dr. Rooshil Patel is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with advanced training in cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and refractive surgery, including LASIK and PRK. He provides a full spectrum of medical and surgical eye care, from routine exams and disease management to complex procedures designed to restore vision and improve quality of life. Dr. Patel is a Kentucky native and attended the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate studies, where he majored in Biology and minored in Spanish. Following college, he stayed on at UK to pursue his medical degree. There, he found his passion for ophthalmology with the help of mentors, community engagement, and productive research opportunities. Following medical school, Dr. Patel was selected by the University of Louisville to pursue a residency in ophthalmology. In Louisville, Dr. Patel gained immense clinical and surgical experience under the guidance of noteworthy attendings. He performed a considerable number of surgeries in every subspecialty of ophthalmology, ranging from pediatrics to retina. In addition, Dr. Patel found the value in research and contributed to the overall body of literature with several publications. In addition, Dr. Patel’s interests also lie within the community. He has gained experience working with disadvantaged populations both in the United States and underdeveloped nations such as Ghana and Ecuador with programs such as Unite for Sight and Shoulder to Shoulder, respectively. He plans to continue medical servitude throughout his career. As a result of these efforts, Dr. Patel has found joy in working with both the Spanish-speaking and the Gujarati-speaking population, and looks forward to continue providing care to this patient population. Dr. Patel believes that every patient deserves personalized, compassionate, and evidence-based care. He places great importance on patient education, ensuring that individuals not only understand their diagnoses but also feel empowered to participate in their care decisions. His goal is to treat each patient as he would a member of his own family—prioritizing safety, trust, and lasting results. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Patel enjoys traveling, playing sports, and spending quality time with friends and family. He has recently moved to NYC to be with his fiancée. They both love to explore the city, work out together, and travel.
